Degree in Education

A degree in education can give people multiple opportunities in all levels of schooling, including administrative positions through either a bachelor's or a master's. Either prepares individuals to be an elementary, middle, or high school teacher in public or private schools or to work as principals, assistant principals and department heads, planning classes and developing lesson plans. The online education degree is available for teachers already holding a bachelor's who want to increase their salary or position by adding another endorsement or master's degree.

Teachers perform a variety of tasks from planning instruction, meeting with parents, grading papers, managing student behavior, evaluating student progress, and more. Most states require a prospective teacher to be licensed or certified. A bachelor's degree in education is a basic requirement for licensure or for a certificate.

Because all teacher programs require performance components in terms of supervised practicum and student teaching experiences, one can not earn a bachelors degree in education entirely online; however, most programs include many courses that can be taken online. Obviously, a bachelor's is meant to prepare a student to run a classroom, so much of the preparation is devoted to classroom-based experiences with students which obviously can't be completed online. All bachelor's degrees also require general education and specific content courses, many of which can be completed online.

An associates on the web is two-year programs that can be completed entirely via distance learning. These programs prepare students to be a teacher's assistant or work in a preschool or daycare setting. Perhaps one of the most sought-after online degrees is the master's. Many teachers pursue a master's degree in education to increase their chances of getting hired or to increase their base salary. Some teachers pursue a master's online education degree to move to an administrative or curriculum development position within a school district.

Teachers can conveniently pursue master's on the web which is typically a two-year program, or an added endorsement. An endorsement is a shorter program that is similar to adding a specialty to ones credentials. For instance, one might earn an endorsement in gifted education. An online education degree is very attractive to busy teachers whose schedules prevent them from being able to attend traditional classes. A master's, associates, or endorsements can be completed within the confines of one's schedule and at their own pace.

Teaching is a highly rewarding career that enables people to truly make a difference in the lives of others. A bachelor's online education degree is the first step toward teaching. A post-graduate degree can help anyone increase marketability in a highly competitive job market, can enhance salary, or can move them onto other teaching-related career options.
